I Love to See Him Cooking

The whole world knows that I am not a good cook. In fact, I can’t cook at all. Well, perhaps I can cook a little, simple food such as soup with lots of meatballs and chicken (I’m a total carnivore), capcay, fried chicken, pizza mie… those sorts of food; food that doesn’t need many ingredients to make.

But thank God, I have a wonderful husband who is—luckily—can cook well. When he’s at home, he likes to make Spanish food for me; food that is really new for me, I don’t even know how to describe it. And even though I don’t really like European food, I let him cook for me because I love to see him cooking.

He always puts a serious-looking face when he’s cooking. It seems funny to me, though, seeing him that way. Also, he seems to get busy by himself, preparing all the stuff he needs. In fact, it is sometimes witty when he can’t find the ingredients he needs because surely there are some differences between Spanish and Indonesian ingredients. Perhaps that is why sometimes I feel that his food is a bit weird, because he can’t use the exact ingredients as what he normally uses.

And so, this evening he wanted to make pudding. I don’t know what kind of pudding it is because it is surely not the normal pudding I eat sometimes. And here are the things he used to make this I-don’t-know-the-name pudding:
  • 1 liter of milk
  • Cinnamon (just a little)
  • Orange peel (he used Valencia orange)
  • 3 spoons of cornstarch
  • Yolks (of 6 eggs)
  • Sugar
  • Chocolate or vanilla essence
  • Cookies

And how did he make it??
  • First, he boiled the milk, the orange peel, the chocolate essence and the cinnamon together
  • Second, he beat the yolks and the sugar
  • And when the milk was hot enough, he threw away the orange peel and the cinnamon, and he put inside the yolks and the cornstarch then he mixed them up
  • When it was done, it looked like paste
  • Next, he put it into small bowls then he added a cookie on it
  • Then he put those bowls in the refrigerator

He said that it wasn’t supposed to eat until tomorrow (he thinks that it is better served when it is cold). So, I don’t know how it tastes yet. Hope it tastes good.
Surely it is… :)
