Happy Birthday, Dad!

Today my father celebrates his 72nd birthday. Wooow!! He’s soooo old, hahaha… Yeah, he is old and somehow it seems as if he lives in the past, hahaha… I am sure he doesn’t even remember today is his birthday, LOL!

I bought him a present!! I went to a department store with Kikin yesterday to buy a polo shirt. Well, he likes wearing a polo shirt, and the thing is that he rarely changes his shirt. Meaning to say, he always wears the same polo shirt wherever he goes out, hahaha…

So, I wrapped the polo shirt in a nice bag, and I wrote a birthday wish (well, it isn’t really a birthday wish, actually), and I put it on his chair at 03.00 in the morning, so that when he woke up he would see it (if he didn’t sit on it, hahaha…).

The birthday present.

And so I woke up when I heard a phone call, and I knew it was from my brother-in-law, saying “Happy birthday!” to my father (I guess so), and then I got up from my bed—because I needed to pee—and I saw my father sitting on his chair with the polo shirt hanging there, hahaha… Then I said, “Yaay! Someone has a birthday today! Happy birthday, Dad!” And he said, “Thank you for the polo shirt..”

Seriously, if he doesn’t wear that polo shirt, he will have big trouble with me.

Joking. He DOES wear it, LOL.

Dad and his new polo shirt.

Even though I don’t say this often, but I love my Dad. Well, he sometimes can be a really annoying person with his risk-calculations, or his weird advice, or his treating me like his little girl (I mean, I am married already, hello??). But he has also taught me lots of things, especially about discipline (that’s why I am way too organized and punctual), and his way of thinking about the future. And also, if it’s not because of him, I wouldn’t end up studying in college and get a degree. His blessing is all that I need.

Every year, your birthday reminds me

how grateful I am that you are my father.
With all that’s going on in the world today
I’m thankful I get to watch you,
to look up to you, being an example of a good man.
What a privilege it is to observe your strength,
your competence, and your kindness.
I am so blessed to be under your wing,
your protection, your care,
learning important life lessons from you.
If all fathers were like you,
the world would be a very different
and much better place.

Happy Birthday, Dad!
