What Can You Do for Others?

Last night I couldn’t sleep well. The idea of death and the end of the world sneaked into my head. What would it be if we knew we would die tomorrow? What was life-after-death like? Could we still feel the pain?

I’ll be honest; I’m not ready to die. Imagining that I would die really scares me. And then I thought, “What will I do after I die? I won’t bring anything with me when I die. There won’t be money, my laptop, my mobile phone, or my beautiful red dress inside my grave. I will definitely leave them.”

And so I thought, “If I won’t have all that money and stuff with me, what will I do with them?” Then I had this idea: I would donate my money—and other stuff, too—for those who need it the most.

There are plenty of needy people out there who wish to be helped. We may not be able to help them in person—like being a volunteer, for instance—but hey, we do have money! We probably don’t have lots of money, like Oprah Winfrey or those rich people, but still, we have some. We can eat three times a day. We can buy a new dress every month. We can travel to other cities each year. Then what stops us from donating some of our money for those people?

There are various charity organizations which will transfer our donation directly for the needy, such as:

·      Save the Children – if you concern about children
·      Child Africa – if you concern more about African children
·      Green Peace – if you concern about the environment
·      World Wide Foundation – if you concern about the animals and environment
·      The Amala Foundation – if you concern about the youth
·      and lots more (you can google for charity organizations in your country)

Every cent counts. You don’t need to be ashamed if you don’t donate as much as others. You don’t even need to worry if you can’t donate any money at all! SMILE! Yes, give people you meet your most beautiful and genuine smile. You won’t know how your smile will make their bad day better. What really matters is not how much you give, but your sincerity and willingness to help. No matter how small it is, it will make a difference on someone’s life.

When we give something to others, we will end up getting more – Oprah Winfrey
