Happy Birthday, Dad!

Happy birthday, Dad!

That’s a typical Indonesian song for birthday. Today is my father’s 73rd birthday (wow, he is soooo old!). Unfortunately, because I am in Spain, I can’t be with him now. But my sister and her family are home now, so I guess, they are enough to accompany my father on his birthday (I can tell that he looked so happy when I called him this morning).

I asked my best friend, Kikin—who’s now dating a guy from Trinidad, to buy some birthday present for my Dad on my behalf. She told me she bought some cookies and crackers for my Dad. I thought that would be the best gift because my father normally forgets his birthday and it’s quite difficult to find him a present. He barely likes something, and I can’t buy him the same present every year. I wanted to buy him a T-shirt, but every T-shirt here is for winter! How will he wear that T-shirt in Indonesia? He will die for sweat!

Kikin told me that she gave him the present this evening (Indonesian time), and when my father received it, he directly opened the gift, hahaha… And because it’s my father’s habit to “donate” food to neighbors, I told Kikin to tell my father not to give his present to other people. She told me that she told him this 3 times, just to make sure that my father really understands it.

It’s sad not to be able to go home. Well, I’ve been here for 10 months and I really miss my family and friends. I’m saving some money for my trip to Indonesia later by doing freelance jobs, and by the time I am going home, I will have more than enough money to have fun there (to eat every food I can eat).

I am really, really looking forward to going home.

Happy birthday, Dad!
